The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has issued an urgent call for assistance as nearly 3,000 individuals have fled Yemen and arrived in Djibouti within a week. This mass exodus is a result of escalating violence in Yemen, forcing families to undertake perilous sea crossings across the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Sandrine Desamours, UNHCR Representative in Djibouti, highlighted the ongoing influx of refugees arriving by boat through various entry points. These refugees endure challenging journeys in small boats, often leaving family members behind. The situation is further exacerbated by reports of thousands more attempting to escape Yemen but being unable to do so due to security concerns and resource shortages.
